Lys Natt

A celebration of bright Nordic summer nights.

In Lys Natt we return to the night; to the embrace of one of the brightest of Norwegian summer nights. People dancing, drinking, enjoying the height of summer, some artfully concealing sadness, sorrow and loss. The lyrics, the poem by Tormod Skagestad with the same title - capture this essence beautifully, weaving in one of the most quotable and humorous scenes from Skagestad's authorship. Tom Simonsen has said that this is one of his favorite passages from Skagestad:

"It goes as follows: "Driv karan og drekk. Dem klunkar med flaskun. Gjør rundkast: Tvi vøre! Slår hendand i helan. Og driv te hinann' så dem revnar i maskun." If you know a bit of Norwegian, it's pretty obvious that we could have gone in many different directions with the cover art."
